Fatih Travel Information:

Fatih is a municipality (belediye) and district in Istanbul, Turkey that encompasses most of the peninsula coinciding with historic Constantinople. In 2009, the district of Eminönü, formerly a separate municipality located at the tip of the peninsula, was merged into Fatih. Fatih borders the Golden Horn to the north and the Sea of Marmara to the south, while the Western border is demarked by the Theodosian wall.

One of the most important districts inside the walls of İstanbul, Fatih is composed of several neighbourhood. Destroyed by fires and rebuilt over the centuries, the district has been left bereft of its historical buildings. Nevertheless, many historic monuments survive in this district, which was once the home of the famous Byzantine Church the Disciples on the site of which the Fatih Mosque Complex now stands. The district's most important street is Fevzi Paşa Street running from Vezneciler to Edirnekapı. In Byzantine times this was the arm of the Mese (Main Street) that went to Edirnekapı. In the Ottoman era the same street was lined with the mansions of Pashas and other notables. After the 1950s the avenue was occupied by apartment buildings and business centers, so that the historical structures became invisible.
