Hacibektas Travel Information:
In the region of Nevsehir's Hacibektas, excavations have been and still are being made in Sulucakarahoyuk since 1967. During these excavations, settlements going back to the Hittite period have been discovered. In addition, structures belonging to the Phrygian, Roman and Byzantine periods have been found.
In the past, there was a small village in the area called Sulucakarahoyuk. When Haci Bektas Veli, an important name in Turkish mysticism, settled here and started a convent in the 13th century, this aea progressed and became the centre of the Bektasi Dervish Order. Bektasilik, with its very philosophical approach to Islamic mysticism, spread within a very short period of time.
Every year, celebrations are held in remembrance of Haci Bektas Veli, whose convent and mausoleum are frequently visited. The Cilehane(ritual house) buily by Haci Bektas, and the surrounding buildings, have been enlarged with additions, and have taken its present form. This building complex is made up of the convent the tekke (monastery) around the three courtyards, fountains, a laundry, bath, guest house, cellar, a house and mausoleums. The Haci Bektas Veli Turbesi is in the shape of a classical Seljuk mausoleum. Its walls and ceiling are embellished with medallions, writings and flower motifs.
